Ethics rules

Ethics rules, "ghostwriting", "guest authorship", anti-plagiarism procedures

The following rules of publishing are prepared in accordance with Comitee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards; they also drew on Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement employed by De Gruyter.

 

Authors' responsibilities:

1. The author declares that all the data included in the articles submitted by them are original and true.

2. The author declares that the submitted scientific text is not being reviewed to be printed in another journal.

3. If the text has more than one author, the names of all authors must be provided and their contribution indicated.

4. The author should indicate all sources of funding as well as institutions, organizations, etc. supporting his/her research.

5. The way the text is edited should enable verification of assertions, evidence and findings. References and/or footnotes are required.

6. Ghostwriting, plagiarism, unauthorized use of someone else's research and guest authorship are strictly forbidden and will be revealed; in critical situations, legal actions shall be taken.

7. Any spotted mistakes or inaccuracies in texts submitted for publication in Zapiski Historyczne should be immediately reported by the authors to the Editorial Board.

8. The author declares that they have been given permission to publish authorized elements of the article (such as illustrations and photos).

9. The author is obliged to notify of any poaaible conflict of interests which might appear in the reviewing and editing proces of the submitted scientific articles.

10. The author agreement to have their article published in the journal Zapiski Historyczne is tantamount to making the declarations mentioned in art. 1 and art. 2.

 

Editorial Board's responsibilities:

1. The Editorial Board decides whether a given scientific text should be published taking into account exclusively its research value, and ignoring such factors as origin, denomination, sexual orientation, sex, nationality and the beliefs of the author.

2. The Editorial Board makes objective decisions concerning the admission of scientific texts to print and provides the authors with proper justifications of their decision in this respect.

3. The Editorial Board provides information  about the rules of reviewing  submitted texts on the webpage of the journal.

4. All submitted texts are subject to review and verification.

5. The Editorial Board sends all submitted texts to reviewers, taking into account their qualifications and competence. The qualifications and competence are basic criteria for choosing a reviewer of a given text. The Editorial Board takes into account possible conflicts of interests when choosing reviewers. The review process is arranged by double blind system. Every text is subject to at least two reviews. 6. All members of the Editorial Board are obliged to maintain confidentiality.

7. The Editorial Board shall withdraw from reviewing a given scientific text if there is a conflict of interests with the author of the text.

8. The Editorial Board shall inform the authors about any suggestions of changes in their texts, excluding markup and proofreading.

9. In the field of anti-discrimination the current legal regulations are applicable.

10. The final decision on publication of a text is made by the Editorial Board during the meeting approving the contents of every next issue of the journal.

 

Reviewers' responsibilities:

1. The purpose of the reviews is to evaluate the quality of submitted texts in order to enable making a decision on acceptance for printing or rejection of a given text. In case of a positive evaluation of the text, the reviewing comments should be formulated to improve the quality of the text.

2. The reviewers are obliged to prepare their reviews within the time limit agreed with the Editor-in-chief.

3. The reviews shall be objective, content-related, written in accordance with the principle of confidentiality. The reviews are sent by the reviewers to the Editorial Board only.

4. The reviewers are obliged to report immediately every noticed instance of violation of good practice, including plagiarism, guest authorship and ghostwriting.

6. The reviewers are obliged to inform the Editorial Board on the conflict of interest if there is one.

 

Unethical behaviour:

The definitions of good practice, “ghostwriting” and “guest authorship” are consistent with definitions by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education available on the website of the Ministry.
